Yahoo-Booho Breakfast

Back-to-School

Parkview Elementary PTA,

I hope you all had a great summer. Last year was so much fun. We had ton of things to learn about being a PTA for our school. From our needs assessment survey it looks like parents really support many of the purposed ideas for this coming school year.

One program that had a lot of support is the new Watch D.O.G.S (Dads Of Great Students) program. This program will ask for male chaperones at PTA events with the children. This will help male involvement in the lives of our students. I would like to congratulate and thank Jamie Castillo for heading this program.

To start off this year I would like to announce that our bylaws have been approved by the Utah PTA board. This makes our PTA official. YEAH!!!!

Scoshi, our treasurer, and I are opening up our Bank account to start our financial records next week.

This will allow us to get a jump start on back-to-school activities: Yahoo-Booho breakfast, back to school night.

We will need to set a date for our first General Membership Meeting. According to our bylaws, it will need to be in September. At this meeting we will need to set our budget and our calendar. And we would have needed to appoint a nominating committee for our new PTA Executive board. However-since this year is our first official year I am willing to serve my first year twice. But if we can find additional help and there are people willing to step up for next year we can review that our general membership meeting.

In our calendar we will need to have 3 general membership meetings. These are formal meeting that will need to follow Robert's rules. 1 of which will be in sept- so we will only need to plan for 2 more
1 in February (This meeting is for the election of the New Executive Board Meeting, again this might not be necessary) and another in May to close our books

The rest of the meeting will be committee meetings and will not need to follow Roberts rules. (few... thank goodness)

Calendar Events to consider for this coming school year:
Red Ribbon Week (Drub Prevention)
White Ribbon Week (Internet Safety)
Literacy Week
Reflections (YEA!!! we officially have reflections this year)
Dinner for faculty for SEP(Parent teacher conferences)
Teacher Appreciation Week (we spoke last year that we would move this week to March so it would not inferrer with testing)
Culture Night
Spirit Week (we wanted to do this at the beginning of the year to inspire school pride right out the gate)
Yahoo-Boho Breakfast (First day of school for the parents of Kindergarteners)
Pastries for Parents (A community involvement effort-will also include community cafe presentations that will give parents the chance to voice their options about the direction of the school)
Budget allowing *Dad's and doughnuts (same thing as Pastries for parents but more focused on male involvement)
Budget allowing *Mom's and Muffins (same thing as Pastries for parents focused on female involvement)
Volunteer Dinner and Auctions (this should boost volunteer's willingness by providing a reward for the amount of hours individuals volunteer)

Fundraisers
Fun Run
Pennies for Parkview
According to our survey parents are not interested in Harmons earning for learning-some parents have asked if Smith's will do this-this is something I will need to look into
Zupa's Cafe school night is also one that the survey concluded would not be supported
McDonald's School Night (we would need a few teachers to get involved on this one)
BOX TOPS
World's Greatest Chocolates (We need to work this one out with Michelle Ortega)

Again this is just a list of suggestions, we do not by any means need to do all of the proposed items or if there are other ideas please come prepared to our general membership meeting in Sept to share them.  This is a group effort and I love everyones input.

Thank you again for making PTA at Parkview possible. I could not do this without you and I look forward to seeing you all this coming school year.
